Build the Data Platform at One of the UK's Most Trusted Investment Firms: Data engineer role alert
AJ Bell is one of the UK's largest and most trusted investment platforms, serving hundreds of thousands of retail investors and financial advisers. They are not a flashy startup, and that is exactly the point. This is a business with real scale, real data challenges, and a Data Engineering team that is actively building out its platform, which means there is space to own something meaningful from day one.
If you are a data engineer with strong SQL, experience with cloud data platforms, and a desire to build in a mature, financially regulated environment rather than perpetually firefight in a hypergrowth one, read on. The role closes 31 October 2026, so do not sit on this data engineer role.
The Role
Data Engineer role at AJ Bell.
Manchester / Hybrid (Salford Quays office) | Permanent | Competitive salary + bonus | Closes: 31 October 2026.
AJ Bell is building a state-of-the-art data platform and needs a Data Engineer to help design, build, maintain, and evolve the infrastructure behind it. This is end-to-end development: working with stakeholders to define requirements, building ELT pipelines, developing data warehouse solutions, creating automated tests, and continuously improving the platform.

Search "Data Engineer" on the AJ Bell careers page. AJ Bell also holds a Skilled Worker sponsor licence, relevant for those on a visa pathway.
What the role involves:
Collaborating with stakeholders to define and refine data requirements
Developing data warehousing solutions and scalable ELT pipelines with modern CI/CD practices
Data integration design: ensuring solutions are efficient and future-proof
Building automated tests for data quality and integrity
Ensuring compliance with AJ Bell's Data Governance and Data Classification policies
Core stack: Cloud data platforms, modern ELT tooling, SQL, CI/CD practices. Strong preference for financial services data experience.
How to apply well:
Emphasise any financial services data experience prominently. AJ Bell operates in a heavily regulated sector. If you have worked with FCA-regulated data, investment records, transaction data, or anything adjacent to financial compliance, lead with it.
Show CI/CD in your portfolio. The job description calls out modern CI/CD practices explicitly. Include a GitHub repository link or mention specific tools (dbt, GitHub Actions, Airflow) you have used in a deployment pipeline.
Quantify the scale of your pipelines. AJ Bell processes investment transactions for hundreds of thousands of customers. Show that your engineering experience has prepared you for that volume: record counts, pipeline throughput, or latency benchmarks.
Highlight data quality and testing work. The role specifically calls out automated tests for data integrity. If you have built data quality frameworks, mention the specific checks you have implemented and how you surfaced failures to stakeholders.
Apply before 31 October. This is a hard deadline on a live careers page. Do not assume you have more time than you do.
